I love bone broth! Once you try REAL bone broth, you’ll never go back to regular broth or stock from the grocery store again. Bone broth is made by slowly simmering bones with aromatic vegetables and herbs in water with a touch of vinegar for several hours. This draws out nutrients from the bones and the rarely-eaten-by-most-people bone marrow and connective tissues. Homemade chicken soup, made with bone broth, has long been advised for illnesses, such as the common cold. While many people may scoff at this, thinking that any warm beverage will be soothing, there is scientific evidence supporting the health benefits of bone broth.
Bone broth contains glutamine and glycine, which are great for digestive health. The glycine in bone broth also helps detox the liver. Bone broth also contains gelatin, which helps your body rebuild connective tissues, skin, hair, and nails. It can also help with joint pain by reducing inflammation. You can read more about these health benefits here.
I like to make my own bone broth. I like getting the most use possible out of the food that I buy, and I also like that bone broth is so inexpensive to make. However, there are times when I reach for store-bought bone broth. Sometimes I haven’t had time to turn my stash of bones in the freezer into bone broth yet. Sometimes I need a different broth flavor than what I have on hand. Sometimes I forget to defrost the broth ahead of time, and it’s just easier to grab some from the pantry.
My favorite bone broth to purchase is Kettle & Fire. It is the best tasting bone broth I have ever purchased, most likely because it is made by a long, slow simmer, just like homemade bone broth. It lists all the ingredients, no “spices” or “natural flavors” to be seen. I also like the way the boxes fit into my pantry better than cans or jars.
You can heat Kettle & Fire bone broth, add salt to taste, and drink it as a warm, soothing health beverage. You can use it in any recipe calling for broth or stock. You can use it as a base for delicious soups. Last night I used some to make Belgian Booyah from Maria Emmerich’s new Keto Instant Pot cookbook.
None of the local stores in my rural area carry Kettle & Fire bone broth. Fortunately, I can purchase it directly from Kettle & Fire here and get it delivered to my door.
